Taylor Swift Officially the Highest-Paid Musician in the World
Singer and performer Taylor Swift topped Forbes' list of the world's highest-paid musicians for 2016 (CCSS Level: Grade 7, Words: 319)
Dec 18, 2016 Culture & Entertainment

Taylor Swift is officially the highest-paid musician in the world. Not only is the singer earning huge income from her singing career and tours, but also from lucrative endorsements. Swift has profitable deals with Keds, Diest Coke and Apple.

Swift topped Forbes' list of the world's highest-paid musicians after earning a jaw-dropping $170 million from June 2015 to June 2016. According to Forbes it was Swift's 1989 tour that helped her towards this total. Coming in in second place is boy-band One Direction, at $110 million. Adele scored number three spot with $80.5 million, and then came Madonna and Rihanna with $76.5 million and $75 million each. Women made up most of the top five entertainers on the list, but that's about where it stopped. In fact there are only seven women in total out of the top thirty highest paid stars in Forbes' list.

Last year, the highest-paid musician title went to Swift's rival Katy Perry, who earned $135 million in 2015. In comparison Swift earned a modest $80 million. However in 2016, the tables were turned and Perry only managed $41 million. Coming in fourth on the 2016 musicians list was Madonna with $76.5 million, earning most of her income from her Rebel Heart Tour as well as perfume and clothing deals. Rihanna in followed closely in fifth, raking in $75 million. This was mostly thanks to sponsorship deals with Dior, Puma, Samsung and others. Beyoncé only came in at No. 17 with $54 million. However it is very likely that she will get a much higher ranking in the 2017 list when it comes out next year.

The old hands of rock are still able to pull in the millions however. Veterans such as AC/DC earned number seven spot with $67.5 million, the Rolling Stones were eight, scoring $66.5 million and aging rocker Bruce Springsteen still managed number eleven with $60.5 million.
