After weeks of criticism, Tokyo 2020 golf venue votes in favour of admitting female members. Women were previously not allowed to become full members or play on Sundays at Japan's Kasumigaseki Country Club.

The Club risked having its hosting rights for the event stripped due to its controversial all-male policy. However, the Tokyo 2020 organising committee says the club's regulations have been changed following a unanimous decision by the executive board, a decision welcomed by the president of the Tokyo 2020 organising committee Yoshiko Mori.

"We are pleased to learn that the Kasumigaseki Country Club voted to amend the club's membership policy in keeping with the spirit of the Olympic Charter. On behalf of the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, I'd like to extend my gratitude to the members of the club for their understanding and cooperation," Mori said via a statement.

"I also would like to express my admiration for the club's endeavour to come to an agreement in such a short period of time. Kasumigaseki Country Club is an outstanding venue with excellent courses, and we will be hosting top-tier golfers from all over the world for the Olympic Games." he added.
